DIGITAL IMAGING

Our office uses advanced digital radiography. For routine visits, we take radiographs of the needed areas by using a small sensor which captures the image of your teeth and sends it to the computer. The result is a highly detailed image that is ready instantly.

For more specific cases we are able to take digital panoramic images which show us your entire mouth and joints. This image is necessary prior to the removal of wisdom teeth.

We also have the capacity to take cone beam CT images. With this technology we are able to take 3-D images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone all in a single scan, giving us much better diagnosing capabilities.

Digital imaging has many advantages over conventional film x-rays.

Less Radiation: The equipment used in digital radiography exposes dental patients to much less radiation. In fact, digital imaging reduces exposure by 90 percent less radiation than conventional film. Digital radiography is an excellent option for those whose physician recommends radiographs on a regular basis or for those who are concerned about radiation.

Higher Quality Images: Once on the screen, digital images can be enlarged or magnified for a better visual of the tooth's structure. Specific areas can be spotlighted and brightness, contrast and color can also be adjusted, allowing us to see smaller cavities easier. If a hard copy of your image is needed, digital images can also be printed or emailed to a specialist for immediate review. This saves time in coordinating treatment.

Environmentally Friendly: Digital dental radiographs are better for the environment! With digital radiography, no chemicals are used to develop film. There's also no wasted space of a darkroom and no need to store or dispose of outdated film.

We also use intraoral imaging. With a small, high resolution video camera about the size of a pen, called an intraoral camera, we are able to clearly see the condition of your teeth and gums. With this advanced technology we can zoom in on small diseased areas, cracks, chips and worn metal fillings with extreme precision. The full-color images taken with the intraoral camera are sent to a computer monitor so we can clearly see and diagnose dental problems much earlier than with traditional dental technology. Because images are displayed on our monitors, patients will also be able to see areas needing treatment and are able to gain a better understanding of dental procedures to be performed.
